William Bray
William J. “Bill” Bray, Jr. is a retired teacher of Chesterfield county schools, having taught U.S. History at Clover Hill, Monacan, and James River for a combined 34 years. He retired from the classroom in 2010 and dedicated his retirement to helping Rapids Baseball Incorporated and other nonprofit entities.
Bill coached Baseball at Clover Hill as a Varsity Assistant, and had the good fortune of helping coach the 1978 Group A State Championship Cavaliers squad. He also coached JV Basketball at both Clover Hill and Monacan, and was a Varsity Basketball assistant at Monacan and James River. He also was the Varsity soccer coach at Monacan for one year.
From 2005 until 2013 he was an assistant coach for the James River High School Baseball team.
Coach Bray earned a B.A. degree in History from Lynchburg College in 1972, and followed with a M.A. degree in History from East Carolina University in 1975, where he held a Teaching Fellowship. He has taken additional courses through UVA, VCU, and Mary Washington Univ.
Coach Bray has been married since 1976 to the former Pat Shannon, and they live in Midlothian, VA. They have two grown sons, Mark and Eric.
